Event Category: Ultra
We offer three run categories. These categories have been chosen with care to cater to long distance runners of varying experiences and abilities. While safety is our primary concern, we have designed these courses to provide adequate challenge. Do remember that the terrain is hilly. So there are plenty of ups and downs for runners to negotiate. We mildly suggest that you do not worry about recording personal bests on this course. The course is mostly on mud roads winding through coffee estates. There are also a couple of small stretches of narrow trail. Think about how you will perform in Jeep Country when you choose your category!
50 Km – 9 Hours This category is targeting marathoners who want to take themselves to the next level. If you have already run a few city marathons on paved roads, this is the run for you.
The 50K course is laid out entirely within three expansive and beautiful coffee plantations. The course uses Jeep roads laid out within these estates. However, runners must be prepared for a narrow trail leading to (what we call) the Summit. Do take the time to soak in the view from the Summit. Take in the valleys on both sides and the Bhadra Reservoir. The course will literally take you through miles of coffee plantation with majestic jungle trees, Silver Oak, Teak, Rosewood, Pepper, Cardamom etc. Apart from the varieties of birds, do look out for Malabar Flying Squirrels, Porcupines, Hares, Spotted Deer, Sambhar, Peacock and other small animals. The Start and the Finish of the 50K Run is near the entrance of Lalbagh Coffee Estate. Barring a couple of small stretches, the route has no overlaps. One final caution. The 9 hours cut-off might still test you because of the terrain and the surface!
80 Km – 15 Hours This category is especially designed for experienced runners who are ready to take the big leap into ultra running. We expect that almost all the runners in this category will have to run the latter part of this run in the dark. This in itself will make it a great experience for those that have never run in the dark.
Imagine running with your headlamp through the dark and quiet through coffee plantations. It should get the adrenalin going and may result in goosebumps on a few occasions.
This run will start and end at the Lalbagh Estate. The first section of the course overlaps the 50K course. Runners will go across two other estates to complete the remaining 30 kms and finish at the gate of the Lalbagh estate.
Expect about 65 Km of the total distance to be on mud roads/trail and the remaining on remote public paved (but with plenty of pot-holes) roads.
Again, while the 15 hours provided to complete this run might make it seem easy, it will not be a cakewalk.
110 Km – 24 Hours This is the big daddy of our runs and is targeting experienced ultra runners. We believe that we can provide an experience that tops many of the ultras conducted in other parts of the world. We want to invite elite long-distance runners to join us and help us grow this event by becoming role models for others.
The run will begin and end at Lalbagh Estate. In addition to the 80K route, the runners of the 110Km will do one section of 30 Kms through Doopadkhan and Sampige Hutti Estates .
Runners will be given a full 24 hours to finish.
